WTF moment in Bible study: Psalm 109, to the Chief Musician

Psalm 109: To the Chief Musician

So there we were, hubby and I, doing our morning devotionals through the Psalms. We were pretty cool about Psalm 109 being an imprecatory Psalm. After all, it's okay that we can be honest with our hatreds before God. We certainly don't want to hide our hearts and put on a front. Hey, if we hate someone as David obviously hated the person who made him write Psalm 109, then yeah, go ahead and spill out all your hateful thoughts about the guy to God.

But then! We saw the words "To the chief Musician." And that set us to laughing and generally rolling around with laughter. Honestly, you had to be there. But the upshot is this:

Who writes a hate song for church? Okay, there are cultures with war chants sung communally but I just imagined the practice section for this song. The Chief Musician saying to the alto, "Once more: 'Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.' But not the D-note. Make it a C this time. And add a little more venom."

Basically we had tons of fun this morning. But, yeah, you had to be there. Another WTF moment in Bible study.
